Successful start to the DSOL: opening win against Rheinfelden in league 9a

(mh) With Martin, Uwe, Markus and Marcus our third team made a successful start to the DSOL.
SK Rheinfelden was beaten by 3.5:0.5 points and we thus have the first two match points to our name.

Marcus, as team captain, was able to watch a little at the beginning, since his opponent was 22 minutes late.
By then he could observe good positions for all our players after the neutral opening phase. On the black boards Martin and Markus chose the King’s Indian Defence.

Marcus then had an easy game at the end thanks to his time advantage, without ever getting into trouble. His opponent feinted but in the end did not choose the Marshall Attack with d5. Later, in a promising position, Marcus was able to make sure his opponent used up his remaining time.

Martin first took a pawn and later set up a knight fork. His opponent then put up bitter resistance while behind and advanced his passed pawn to the second-to-last rank. Martin, however, was not rattled, and after the exchange of the passed pawn achieved a clearly winning position in which his opponent resigned. Something similar happened to Markus, who even had to deal with two connected pawns on the sixth rank and skilfully held them up. He took the first point.

Uwe’s position looked balanced, and after Markus’s win he agreed a draw with his opponent.

18.01.2021 - Simultaneous chess against two IMs

(ps) Fun was the focus of this tournament: the IMs Christian Braun and Patrick Zelbel, trainers of our “performance group” and also known on YouTube as Chessbuddies, held a lively simultaneous tournament on Saturday evening and played against 24 opponents. The tournament was played on Lichess and streamed live on YouTube. The thinking time for the IMs (who played together) was 30 minutes, just as long as for their opponents. Participation in the tournament was open; from the Schachfreunde München, Arthur, Aaron and Diana dared to take part. The three did lose their games (some of them very narrowly), but the result was only a side matter at this event. For the players and spectators it was simply a pleasure. Oh yes, the IMs won 15 games, drew 3 and lost 6.

The tournament is on YouTube and can be viewed here. All individual results and games: https://lichess.org/simul/9vw4ZZLA
