Tournaments

The major tournaments in our area are organised by our sister club, Schachfestival München e.V. — it is responsible for tournament organisation and hosts the Munich Chess Festival every year, an international chess festival for players of all strengths.

Munich Chess Festival 2026

The 4th Munich Chess Festival takes place from 10 to 29 May 2026 — with several tournaments for every strength class:

• International Whitsun Open — the festival’s main open, played in Section A (from 2000 Elo) and Section B.
• Wolfgang Unzicker Memorial — norm tournaments — the norm tournaments, where players fight for international title norms.
• Wolfgang Unzicker Memorial Blitz — the fast blitz tournament in honour of the Munich grandmaster.
• Munich Youth Open — the Whitsun open for our young players.
• Chess Camp — training and chess experiences around the festival.
