Last Night in the DSOL: A Lucky Win for the Third Team and an Unlucky Defeat for the Sixth Team
(mh) The third team faced the so far unbeaten ESV Gera II on the 4th round of the DSOL.
It started well and Markus was able to bring home the 1:0 for us at the end with a convincing pawn chain.
For me, on the other hand, things did not go optimally. My young, extremely fast-playing opponent, who had even more time left at the end than at the beginning, played practically flawlessly, and in the end I had to resign because of two connected passed pawns. Martin on the first board had his equally matched opponent well under control and agreed to a draw after a large exchange. Uwe therefore also had to draw at least, but was at a big disadvantage. He fought bravely and his opponent handed him the win with a blundered rook.
With two wins from three matches, it can carry on like this. Up next is the table leader without any match-point losses.
(rh) The sixth team suffered its first defeat of the season, going down unluckily 2.5 to 1.5 against the eleventh team of HSK. On the third board, Arnav worked out an advantage against his nominally stronger opponent, but he could not bring it home against his constantly counterattacking opponent. They agreed to a draw. David did not catch his best day; on the second board he had to admit defeat with Black, just like Archisha on the first board, where her shut-in and ineffective rook and a passed pawn of the opponent decided the game. Only Lukas was able to bring home a win against his inferior opponent. The team still leads the table. However, the others had only played three or even just three matches, whereas we had already played four.
