2nd Moosach Youth Online Open, U18 League and Quarantine League: An Eventful Sunday
(rh) The excitement rose before the tournament, the join requests piled up; up to five minutes before the tournament I admitted newcomers if they had registered beforehand with an email, or if they gave their year of birth. There were guests from Russia, Armenia, but most were from Ireland. The team’s membership rose to over 200 and 142 took part in the tournament. In the U8, David Teng of the Düsseldorfer Schachverein took first place, closely followed by a female and a male player of Strateg Stuttgart. This time Sepas and Leon had to settle for 4th and 5th place. With 29 participants, the U8 was well filled. Willi and Sophie also played really well.
In the U10, first place went to Bremen and second and third place to Ireland. Georg came fourth, although he actually belonged in the U12. Daniel finished 9th in the strong field, Emir 15th. Julian came 23rd, and our two Lucases T and H came 33rd and 35th out of 42 participants. The U10 was the largest group.
In the top-class U12, it was exciting until the end; for a long time Benedikt led the table, and in the last round it came to an internal duel with David. This time David came out on top and reached second place in the last round. Benedikt then had to settle for 4th place. Two strong U12 players from Ireland with a rapid-chess rating of over 2200 took 1st and 3rd place. JianQi surprisingly came 7th with 5 points, Arnav 12th, Moritz 13th and Mete 14th. Elias had to settle for 22nd place.
In the U14, Basti also played, although he actually belonged in the U12, and led the table with five consecutive wins. Then came the duel with the Bremen player Kristjan, where he lost. He did pick up the final point, but it was only enough for second place, which was also a fine achievement. So at this tournament, as already at the first Moosach Open in 2018, we could again show two second places. Surprisingly, Sophie reached 6th and Antonius 10th place. Carl came 14th, Julius 15th, and Oli did not catch his best day and sat out the last rounds. After all, there were 23 participants in this group.
We had to merge the U16 with the U18; Diana also played here. First place went to Stefans Kasims, second place went to Bechhofen and third place to Great Britain. Ardian narrowly landed in 4th place.
All in all it was a successful tournament that cries out for a repeat. The 3rd Moosach Youth Online Open is to take place on 4 April. The goal is to raise the number of participants to over 200. This will be possible with a lead time of four weeks and with our good chess relations to Ireland.
Our players were a bit tired, so some important players could not take part in the U18 tournament. Benedikt, Basti and Dominik were the only ones who took part in both tournaments to the end. It was again enough for 8th place. Next Sunday, hopefully everyone will take part again.

In the Quarantine League we drew a very tough group. We started with two FMs, Samu and Jan, and another player from Hungary, Zoltan, helped out.
Surprisingly, Sinem made the scoring this time.
