Successes in the Lichess Tournaments over the Weekend

(rh) On Saturday the U16 league was on the schedule. For the first time it happened that at 4 p.m. only half the team was present. One by one the next three trickled in. But we were still understaffed. In this two-hour tournament, though, it is not wrong to join later. Oli and Wolzentrum then completed the team, and Diana also joined with an hour’s delay. We ended up safely in midfield.

On Sunday I feared a similar starting situation, but since only 6 results count here, the personnel worries are smaller. Expectations were exceeded; we played with 16 players, of whom only two were guest players, all the others being members of the club. For the first time we came third in a photo finish in a strong field. Emir, the youngest participant, pushed himself to the top of the team scorer list with 28 points. Congratulations to the team!

On Sunday evening the Quarantine League was on the schedule. This time an FM, Juan Pablo Demaria from Argentina, helped us. He played so solidly that he scored the most points in the entire field. Samu, by contrast, tried to play with half the time and ended up with fewer points this time. The others also helped collect points, so we were only overtaken shortly before the end, and promotion was never in danger. On Thursday we start with 5 minutes in the 9th league.

21.03.2012 DSOL 6th round - A memorable round: all chances squandered?

(mh) On the second-to-last preliminary round of the DSOL, all teams were in action, and good results were supposed to set up the conditions for qualification to the knockout round for some teams. Unfortunately it turned out differently, and with very mixed results we gave away the first two places out of our own hands almost everywhere.

1. Team (League 4B, 8th place, 2 match points)
Our 1st team has had to fight throughout all the matches with the fact that the opponents are considerably stronger, because for various reasons the best players according to DWZ are not playing. But the team holds up bravely and has so far scored in every match. Above all, Elias (mostly on the first board) always plays close games against nominally much stronger players, which in turn is also good training. This week it was again close against Aachener SV, 1.5:2.5. On the final round it is about honour against the second-to-last team. With a win, SC Diogenes is left behind us. So everyone has to put it all in once more.

2. Team (League 6B, 6th place, 4 match points)
The 2nd team started very well in the DSOL. But after that it had three narrow and unlucky (and from our point of view sometimes also not fair) defeats. In the last match, only a draw was salvaged against the bottom side SK Rinteln II, where beforehand a player was caught out by the clearing process. Jürgen could not maintain his series of so far unbeaten games, and Fabian also lost. Next week it is against SV Erkenschwick III, still for the achievable 4th place (if the 5th does not win against the 3rd).

3. Team (League 9A, 3rd place, 6 match points)
Quite surprisingly, the 3rd team still has a real chance at the knockout games, but has to hope that the current 2nd (Hamburger SK VIII) loses on the final round. The 3rd team often had the problem that, as a “sandwich”, it always had to lend players up or down and therefore played in constantly changing line-ups. In addition, I was placed (for my taste) a bit too far forward, so that I often sat on the first board. In the last match, however, we narrowly held our own against the bottom side and must win in the final match against the second-to-last team. Therefore, if possible, the best line-up should play.

4. Team (League 9B, 5th place, 6 match points)
Here (as with some of the following teams) the good starting situation was squandered on the final round. Against the bottom side (SK Kaltenkirchen), equipped with only one draw so far, there was a 0.5:3.5 defeat. Only Arthur (with his sometimes somewhat too brisk style of play) salvaged a draw. With that, even theoretically, in the very even league there is no longer any chance at the knockout games, especially since on the final round it is against the current table leader, who, however, also already has two defeats.

5. Team (League 12D, 3rd place, 7 match points)
The fifth team, too, after the defeat in the last match, no longer has it in its own hands to land in the top two places and thereby reach the knockout games. Against the direct rival Düsseldorfer SV II it lost narrowly 1.5:2.5, whereupon the latter moved past us in the table. And it was actually just the first defeat. But since the two teams ahead of us so far have no defeats, they are each one point ahead and can settle everything in the final match. With a (big) win, at least the theoretical chance should be kept alive.

6. Team (League 12C, 3rd place, 7 match points)
It cannot run more unluckily than for the 6th team. After three wins in the first three matches, the mostly same players had a very good starting position. Then came a narrow defeat against Hamburger SK XI, who, however, also have two draws against weaker teams. But since SF Pattonville, with four wins and one defeat against Hamburg, was also still in the running, it was all-or-nothing in the direct duel. And we began very strongly with two wins by Lukas and Arnav. But Pattonville’s top two boards were strongly manned, and Archisha and David had to admit defeat after a hard fight. The draw now means that with a 4:0 win in the last match we might possibly advance via the secondary tiebreak, or Hamburg must not win against the second-to-last team. So we are practically missing one game with a draw in the previous matches to go into the last match more relaxed.

7. Team (League 13B, 2nd place, 7 match points)
Here a second place is currently on the books, but there is also no match left (a bye day due to an odd number). On the other hand, on the final round two teams behind can still “easily” move past with a win. The (safe) knockout-round qualification was unfortunately squandered here too in the last match. Against the direct rival SC Alzenau III there was a 1:3 defeat. With a draw, the knockout round would have been secure thanks to the many board points. That means here we can only watch and hope that the two relevant teams do not win.

In summary, it can be noted that all teams have so far (within their means) played very well. Unfortunately, a round with several defeats then led to the situation that none of the teams will probably be enough for the top two places. But maybe next week we will still have some luck and something unforeseen will happen in our favour.

12.03.2021 Three primary school courses almost fully booked: 50 game appearances in four tournaments within 30 hours

(rh) The campaign for the school courses is almost concluded; the response from the city centre, above all from the primary school on Türkenstraße, is overwhelming. In fact, in the university district and Schwabing there is only one chess club, Roter Turm Altstadt at the former Nordfriedhof. But the club is above all attractive for students. The other club bearing the name Schwabing has its playing venue in Milbertshofen. The school courses, which take place online, are later to be established at the schools as extracurricular groups (AGs).

We managed the U12 World League, U12 Tegernheim Cup, U18 Tegernheim Cup and Quarantine League with 50 game appearances and about 40 players. Twice involved for us were: Benedikt (super performance in both U12 tournaments, raised his personal record in Puzzle Storm to 57!), Emir (played in both U12 tournaments and contributed decisively to staying up in the World League), Basti (also played in both U12 tournaments and, with 29 points at the Tegernheim Cup, landed in fifth place on the scorer list), Ardian (shone in the U18 and played in the Quarantine League together with two FIDE Masters in the team and came 4th in the team standings), Maxim, Johann, Moritz, etc.

We achieved two 4th places (Tegernheim Cup U12 and Quarantine), one 6th (Tegernheim Cup U18) and one 7th (U12 World League) place.
