Bavarian U12 Champions for the 1st time. - The team (David, Vroni, Lukas and Moritz) convinced all along the line and qualifies superbly for the German Club Championship!
As it happened, in the first round we already had our third match with the Schachfreunde from Augsburg. We had won both previous times, but afterwards Augsburg went through as runners-up. This time we won on all boards; the top two were balanced and the result could have been closer. I reached the town of Postbauer-Heng during the lunch break; everyone was in good spirits after the first win. The children left us for the next game and, as we set off for the school after our coffee, it was not long before Lukas came towards us excitedly. He told us about his opponent’s first move, which was already illegal in two respects. He wrote down his first move before making it and afterwards also did not press the clock. The opponent did not hold out for long after that and the first point was ours. We had not yet reached the venue when Vroni came calmly towards us. She too was able to checkmate her opponent quickly.

So even at this early stage we were almost at our goal. Only half a board point was missing for the second team win. Moritz came out next and asked Alexander, who was the team captain, whether he should accept his opponent’s draw offer. Since we were playing for the championship and he should also conserve his strength for the last, decisive round, after examining the position the opponent’s wish was granted. David’s position was also balanced and he took the half point for a 3-1 win against Aschaffenburg. Between the rounds the boys played football and got to know each other.
Against Postbauer-Heng, the last opponent, Henry Uhl sat on the second board; he had already taken part in our holiday course and had since gained quite a few DWZ points. Vroni, however, proved too strong, and after losing the exchange his position deteriorated visibly. Before that, Lukas was on top in a varied game with queen and rook; the opponent’s queen also stood on the second-to-last rank, but despite the back-rank weakness there was no mate threat. Lukas’s attack proved too strong; he took the point. With Moritz the position developed to our advantage; after winning a second minor piece he was safely on the road to victory. So we won the last match 3.5-0.5 against the runners-up Postbauer-Heng. It is a pity that the team cannot compete at the DVM in this line-up, since the families have already planned their Christmas holidays elsewhere. Fortunately we still have other strong players who will move up and be able to prove themselves.

Who would have thought it possible? The U10 team (David, Lukas, Moritz and Lucas) achieves the club’s greatest success to date and becomes runners-up at the German Club Championship!!! - only the Hamburg players were a touch better this time; we left renowned clubs behind us, a total of 39 teams took part. - On top of that, our board 1 David was the best player of the entire tournament; he gave up only half a point out of seven and gains about 150 DWZ points. - And today, Sunday, the lichess team in the Quarantine League, with help from Argentina!, also achieved promotion to the 5th division!

The small DWZ tournament in the NW12 was a lovely chess event. - In three amateur groups, a U12 tournament and a beginners’ tournament, a total of 25 took part. - the highest DWZ gain was celebrated by Anna, who now stands at 1249 after the official calculation. - New member Christian won the second group, Arthur the first and Benedek the third.
(rh) The first arrived at the beer garden as early as 9 a.m. Fortunately Samy brought his set, so that play was possible on at least one board. Spectators gradually gathered around the board too. That helped bridge the wait until the beer garden opened. Within twenty minutes the boards were set up and the clocks adjusted, game forms and ballpoint pens distributed. We could get started. From 10 a.m. play took place on nine boards. At 12:30 beginners also joined, playing a small rapid tournament with six. All in all it was a successful event with advertising appeal for chess, which is crying out for a repeat. The date is already fixed and here is the link to register: https://schachfreundemuenchen.kadermanager.de/events/15155863
