Bavarian Championships in Bad Kissingen
(rh) This time we were represented in Bad Kissingen with seven active and five passive players. All in all, five of these 12 made it to direct qualification spots and all scored at least 50% of the points. Vroni won the U14w, and when you look at how the tournament unfolded, you can’t help but think of a déjà-vu. Last year she already lost to her friend Cora and became champion. This time she was again defeated by her in the third round, but won all the other rounds. Cora, on the other hand, drew three times. Congratulations on defending the title from the U12! Last year she already took part in the German Championship, and this year she gets to go again. This is all the more pleasing given that she is among the younger players of her age group. The other big surprise was Aaron’s 1st place. He also had to play against his friend, but unlike Vroni he won his game. That point was also very important. In the U10, Daniel pushed ahead of the favourite Daniel James in the final round and set himself apart by half a Buchholz point. Emir gave up a full three points and fell short of expectations. Jonas, on the other hand, recovered from two defeats right at the start of the tournament and also scored four points.
The three boys in the U12 (Lukas, David and Tugrul) all started well, but in the second half things no longer went so smoothly. Only David would still have had a chance at winning the tournament in the final round. He even played for a win and lost. He stayed in 4th place, though, and thus also travels to the German Championship. Among the girls, Tugce’s play delighted us; thanks to her final spurt she landed in 3rd place and thereby also qualified for the DEM. For her twin brother, who finished 9th in the U12, we have submitted an application for a free place. Georgia, who played an outstanding U10w tournament (4th place) and drew against the top two, will hopefully also come along.
