Report

A month has already passed. In the first week of the holidays, after the positive experiences, there will from now on always be a chess camp at Reinmarplatz. Above all because we now have, for the first time, our first volunteer or “Bufdi” for the coming school year in the person of Anian Staude. He will gather his first camp experiences in the last week of the holidays. The camp in the last week is notable in that seniors will also take part.

In the first week, Victoria, Felix, Ardian and Gloria were there and had a lot of fun teaching. For Barbara it was preparation for the intensive chess month of August. Leo was also introduced to tournament chess through the camp. He has already been attending the chess club at his school for a year. He played his first games in the C group at the Small Laim Open and proved his ability.

Regarding the Small Laim Open, it can be said that the biggest surprise in the A-Open was Mircea’s win over Soham. It was special in that, thanks to the DGT boards loaned by Marc Lang, who will also provide them for the German Club Championship, the final moves were visible to the audience. We broadcast the game in the foyer and projected it onto the wall. Mircea also won the A-Open. Soham finished second and Tugrul, at his 12 years of age, 3rd. In the B-Open, Marcus, who is our treasurer and membership officer, triumphed just as surprisingly. Jakob Greive came second and Hüseyin 3rd. In the C-Open, Greta Greive had only one small slip-up; she won 8 out of 9 games, closely followed by Barbara, who scored 7 out of 9. The youngest participant in the B-Open was Fynn Jeremy Lange, who in the first rounds had the adults trembling until he met his conqueror Marcus. Fynn played a strong tournament again, all in all. But the same can be said of all the Tegernsee players. With three participants, there was one gold and one silver. For me, the holiday started on the morning of the last tournament day, but I stayed informed about the results by text message.

After this tournament came the U10 Championship in Düsseldorf. The children played splendidly, above all our two youngest, on board 3 — Barbara — and on board 4 — Atreyu. Barbara lost in the first and last rounds and put together a winning streak in between. Atreyu scored half a point less, but afterwards gathered further DWZ points in Itzehoe; with 1050 he now ranks among the best of his age group in Germany. Smrithi on board 2 and Jonas on board 1 made this possible. They gathered a lot of match experience, but unfortunately each managed only 1.5 points.

The last highlight in the month of August was the inter-state match in Bayreuth, organised on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Bavarian Chess Youth. Three of us took part: Tugce, Tugrul and David. Tugrul stood out above all, scoring — note well — 5 points out of 7 on board 1! David also played well and scored 50% of the possible points on board 2. Tugce found a conciliatory end in the final round, after the win over Noah Kamleiter, who had over 1500 DWZ to his name. That is also Tugce’s goal, and she proved that she has come closer to that goal in parts. She drew in a better position against a player with over 1600 DWZ. There was still a bit of consistency lacking, which is why in the end she scored 2.5 out of 7.

We have a great deal more planned, especially with Anian, our Bufdi. He will assist with the school chess clubs and the club training, online and offline. Beyond that, he will be introduced to maintaining the website, the squad manager and other social media. He will complete the C-coach licence and, if he so wishes, the referee licence too. He will help out at the upcoming tournaments, both individual and team events. A highlight among these is certainly the U12 DVM in Munich at the end of the year.

Here is the preview for September (matches):

On the 9th the club championship starts, youth-friendly from 6:30 p.m.

On the 10th the Saturday training starts at the ASZ with various groups from 10 a.m.

On 17 September the U20 Landesliga plays at Reinmarplatz from 10 a.m.

On the 18th there is then the rapid and blitz tournament at the Pelkovenschlössl. On the same day we will probably take part with two girls’ teams in the Bavarian Championship in Garching.

On the 24th we host the Bavarian U10 Championship. At the same time and venue, the last two rounds of the U20 Landesliga also take place.
