U14 championship for Schachfreunde München e.V.1! Schachfreunde München e.V.2 also without dropping a point over six rounds!
Our U14 teams gave up not a single match point in the entire competition and deservedly won their groups! We are on the home stretch towards the DVM, and the results are impressive. In the end we also benefited from the fact that the U14 competition did not field their best line-ups against us. Thanks to the breadth of the squad, we could draw from a full pool and get many individual appearances. The second team was also convincing. In the nine matches of our teams in total, only board points were lost. Barbara had to strike the sails twice on Sunday; against Rasmus she fought her way back into the game into a rook endgame two pawns down, but her own threats proved too weak and the opponent was able to promote. In the game against the Dachau club’s top board she held up well as long as I was there, but in the end couldn’t pull off the big surprise. Jonas, on the other hand, did better against Peter; when I called Oli to find out the state of play, he told me there was a queen endgame with three pawns on the board.
I knew the other results and suggested proposing a draw offer, since first place would have been certain for us anyway and his opponent had 300 points more on his account. But it got even better, as Jonas found a winning path. After a longer dry spell he made a hefty DWZ gain and is back on track. Saksham drew in the final round and Leo won the fastest with a kind of scholar’s mate. So we were able to provide the surprise in this group and win the last match 2.5 to 1.5. The first team also had to settle for 2.5 to 1.5 twice. Already two weeks ago, the match against Zugzwang ended with this result, as Matvei unexpectedly drew; against Garching, Vedarth did the same after being up a piece. Matvei, on the other hand, brought in two points on board three in the rounds last Sunday. Against Tarrasch, David, Lukas, Matvei and Tugce played. Against Garching, then, Tugrul, Lukas, Matvei and Vedarth. In the match against Tarrasch only Tugce drew, against Georg; the others won their games. Against Garching, only Matvei managed the win, in a game with unequal material (queen against three minor pieces); the others drew.
