Cup victory on Sunday in front of a home crowd at the ASZ! On the Friday before, at the same venue, a home match of three of our teams — only the 1st triumphs narrowly, the 2nd and 3rd teams lose
For the third time already we win with the first team by a narrow 4.5 to 3.5. This time Julio and Ardian lost against expectations. Manfred did not manage the full point and Javier, on his debut, took a never-endangered draw. Stephan had to step into the breach this time; he delivered a remarkable attacking game, and Christoph and Blaz did the same. Andreas also settled for a draw. So it could have ended more clearly. Our second team lost, although the eighth team of Bayern left two boards free, by 5 to 3; we only managed two half points through Vroni and Alexander. In the third team there was not even a half point; everyone lost against the second team of Ismaning. The First has kept its promotion chances alive; the next match against MSC is on 10 March. The weekend will be decisive not only for that reason, but also because of the association meeting and the two final rounds in the U20 Bayernliga.
The school chess championship on Saturday went quite well, apart from the fact that Victoria unfortunately did not make it in time because of a cancelled bus. Teams had to be merged. There were good placings for the beginner teams from the primary school on Felmochinger Str. and on Manzostraße. Among the advanced players, the under-strength team (Jonas was at the cadre training camp) from the GS Feldmochinger Str. put in a strong showing and landed in 8th place. The team led by Barbara from the GS on Strehlerangerstr. came 5th and the GS on Regina-Ullmann-Str. 4th. The performances of Atreyu, Smrithi and Leo were very strong.
In the afternoon the team in the WK1 with Ardian, Vroni, Leon and Zhafaar sailed very narrowly past first place; the final round against the Gisela-Gymnasium was on a knife’s edge. Only here did our team lose narrowly. The team in the WK3 did better with three of our members and won the title convincingly. At the championships of the secondary schools, Tugrul, Tugce and Leon were impressive.
On Sunday it was then time for the cup final. We welcomed the team of my first chess club, SC Roter Turm. According to Manfred’s statement on Friday, we were rank outsiders. However, we did everything in advance to prepare ourselves as well as possible. Manfred did it best; after 14 moves the game was already over and it stood 1–0. Julio led with a piece shortly afterwards, so the decision had surprisingly already fallen after two hours. But Ardian and Leon fought on. Ardian lost somewhat unluckily in the end; his opponent Christian had only 15 seconds left on the clock when he won. Leon held on a rook down in the rook endgame and took his first draw against a player rated over 1900 DWZ. The Moosach grammar-school pupils, Leon and Ardian, can thus say of themselves that they won two cups in one weekend!
