The U12 team is once again, for the third time in a row, in the Bavarian final!
It was an exciting day. Everything began at 10 a.m., simultaneously at the chess house with 11 children and at Bayern on Schlierseestr., where the U12 team played. Let it be said up front that with Chris we had struck gold. The first encounter against Garching ended 3-1. The top board was missing, so our dominance on boards 1 and 4 was clear. To our surprise we also won a full point on board 2, as Vedarth skilfully countered his opponent’s unconventional opening. The game lasted only 15 moves. I arrived during the match against Tegernsee together with Saksham. Here we met Oli having a burger on the way to the venue. He analysed Jonas’s game and was also at hand with advice and support for the other players throughout the day. Thanks for that — not only Jonas but also he earned a regular place in the final at our own chess house, the ASZ Laim. All in all it was a thoroughly successful afternoon, even though we did not score a point on the third board that day. Chris, on the other hand, played as if on a roll and scored 100%. Vedarth stayed at 50%, Lukas at 87.5%. He took the decisive draw against the young Tegernsee star. So in the end it was 2-2 and we had qualification in our own hands. Against Bayern, Chris was the quickest on the road to victory. But even after his point we could not sit back — Bayern caught up, Vedarth and Saksham lost. The whole burden now rested on Lukas’s shoulders, but he is already so seasoned mentally from the many championships that he confidently converted the point against Anna with an interim exchange sacrifice.
