Mixed round in the MMM for two teams, bright spots for two others
On Tuesday the 5th team made the start. The longest journey in the chess district was on. Despite the jam on the Mittlerer Ring we all made it on time to the hosting club SC Kirchseeon. At the start the deceased member Herbert Nidergesäss was remembered. Then it began. Unfortunately boards three and four came under the wheels. Only the youngest, Mohammad, triumphed at a late hour; his father drew on 1. So the 5th team lost for the first time in the season.
The 3rd team again had it very hard and kept it exciting until the end. It stood 2.5 to 2.5; just half a point was missing for the next match point. Antonis unfortunately lost the decisive game against his opponent from SK Südost.
For bright spots the 2nd and 4th teams took care. Both were guests at SK Tarrasch. The 2nd had it hard; there were narrow decisions, the new signings did their job well, and Oleksandr on board 1 took his first and very important point straight away. Zdravko was also on the winning track, but his opponent Dirk Kampfmeier found the way out with a knight sacrifice for two pawns. Marcus turned around a game thought already lost, as did Alexander. The others drew.
The nine-year-old chess talent Andrii on board 1 of the 4th team had more time at the end of the game than at the start and a won position. When I arrived the endgame was in progress, with rook and three pawns against a knight with four connected pawns. He manoeuvred his king cleverly behind the opposing pawns and the opponent had to give up his knight. But promotion was out of the question. Linus too brought home his next point; in the MMM he has an incredible record, the tournaments played making themselves felt. Oli and Fedor drew, Maxim and Jonas won.
