Cup adventure ends again in the round of 16; this time it was the end of the line against the Schachfreunde from Augsburg!
In football the cup has its own laws; underdogs can prevail against professional teams when everything clicks. It could also have gone that way last Sunday, either the first board draws or the third and fourth boards would each have had to wring out half a point more. But it turned out otherwise: Milan lost after a wrong king move in the knight endgame, the opponent playing a perfect game. Arthur on the second board equalised, Aleksandr likewise chose a wrong king move in the rook endgame against the pawn advanced to the penultimate rank, after which the game was decided. On board three Oleksandr played forcefully and had the chance to win, but Uli held firm and let nothing go wrong. Aaron on board 4 fought on in an almost hopeless position, even reduced the deficit and pushed for a stalemate, which in hindsight would not have helped either, but the opponent found the way to the win. All in all we saw exciting games, and we did not go out against just anyone – SF Augsburg were in the cup semi-final of the last cup season.
